A day off

I am lucky enough to have a boyfriend with a flexible schedule who wants some quality time with our boy! So for the last two months Thursdays have been "Dad day" and I have been given the day off! I count myself extremely lucky and am the envy of all my friends.

I had grand plans for what I was going to do with this day, but I'm afraid to say that I have managed to 'waste' a lot of my Thursdays so far. Today is the perfect example: I slept in until 11am (missing the Zumba class I was intending to go to at 9:30am) then lazed around in my pajamas reading the paper until 2pm. Where does time go? Even without my son around to suck up time, I still managed to dwindle away three hours. My neighbour did pop in for a cuppa and chat - but that only accounts for one hour.

So I thought I'd better get out of the house and headed to one of my favourite cafes in Brunswick.  Which was fun, and I got of lot of writing brainstorming done, but I reckon I've become cafe-ed out since being on maternity leave. Sitting in cafes used to be such a treat when I was working full time, but now I do it almost daily with Lewis in tow. It's the one thing that gets me out and about each day, and a coffee a day is a cheap way to stay sane. But it's true what they say: too much of a good thing can really ruin the experience.

Having the extra time once a week has helped me focus on ticking things off my list. I've finished booking our overseas holiday, got though lots of boring admin tasks such as contacting child care centres, paying bills and sorting out superannuation. I've also had time to focus on my writing, getting this blog started and thinking about writing articles for magazines. I've also been brainstorming small business ideas, as I want to enter the Huggies MumInspired competition!

I also did a volunteer reception shift at PBS FM radio station a few weeks ago. It was so good to get out of the house, do something useful and interact with people! I never thought that answering phones and emails could be so exciting. It just goes to show that I'm probably ready to go back to work soon. Three and a half months to go...
